PCIT Therapist Certification

Designed for community-based therapists to learn to implement PCIT as an evidenced-based treatment for young children with disruptive behavior, and/or families referred for parenting services.

Coloring

training includes

  • 40 hours of small-group format training with expert PCIT trainers

    • 4 days focused on the first phase of PCIT

    • 3 days (approximately 8-10 weeks later) focused on the second phase of PCIT

    • Didactic presentations on the theory and techniques of PCIT

    • Hands-on learning strategies (e.g., modeling, role-play) of key skills

  • 40 hours of CEUs (LPC, LCSW, or LMFT)

  • Materials to support PCIT implementation

  • Up to 6 session reviews with feedback

  • 15 months of weekly videoconference consultation

FEES AND LOGISTICS

  • $4,500 per trainee

  • Training fees do not cover the cost of measures or the application fee to PCIT International
  • If virtual, must have appropriate microphone sound quality and be visible throughout

TRAINING Objectives

  • Meet PCIT International certification criteria

  • Deliver PCIT session content to fidelity while developing and maintaining rapport with the family

  • Develop effective PCIT coaching strategies

  • Appropriately administer PCIT-related assessments

  • Demonstrate clinical competency in:

    • Child Directed Interaction (CDI) skills​

    • Parent Directed Interaction (PDI) skills

  • Meet DPICS-IV coding reliability criteria

TRAINING Requirements

  • Pre-training consult with agency leadership to ensure adequate space, referrals, and equipment for PCIT implementation

  • Full participation in the 7 training days

  • Full participation in the 15 months of weekly consultation calls by Zoom

  • Ongoing purchase of the Eyberg Child Behavior Inventory (ECBI) for progress monitoring

  • Submission of up to 6 session videos for feedback on PCIT fidelity
